Chronic Conditions
Cancer
What is cancer?
Cancer is a group of benign and malignant conditions arising from the abnormal cell division in a particular region of the body. Cancer begins when one or more genes mutate abnormally, leading to the creation of cancerous cells.
Cancer may occur due to a genetic disorder that develops when genes that control cell activity stimulate the release of abnormal cells, which multiply and disrupt bodily functions.
What are the signs of cancer?
When symptoms of cancer occur, the following signs occur:
- Sudden, unexplainable weight loss.
- Lethargy
- Chronic pain.
- Fever
- Alterations affecting the skin’s health.
When cancer isn’t treated, the following symptoms develop:
- Bleeding/bruising of the skin.
- The formation of lumps beneath the skin that do not dissipate.
- Trouble breathing.
- Trouble swallowing.
How do you diagnose cancer?
First, health practitioners start by conducting a comprehensive physical examination whereby you will be requested to describe your particular symptoms. As a result, Dr Thomas will either refer to a specialist who will order the following:
- Blood testing to measure your blood cells.
- Imaging studies
- Biopsy is the extraction of cells from a specific bodily region. Several tools are used to extract suspicious cells from the body.
- Tumour markers are specific substances that cancer cells emit, or standard cells release in retaliation to cancerous cells.
- Blood protein tests utilise a process known as electrophoresis to trace the level of immunoglobulins.
- Circulating tumour cell tests check for shedding of cells from cancerous tumours.
How do you treat cancer?
There are several allopathic and alternative treatments for cancer, such as the following:
- Chemotherapy is a widely administered form of therapy for the treatment of cancer. This form of therapy utilises potent chemicals to eradicate cancerous cells from the body.
- Radiation therapy (radiotherapy) is another widely executed cancer treatment that utilises powerful radiation beams to terminate cancer Radiation therapy uses powerful X-rays and other particles to destroy cancer cells.
- Surgical removal of the tumour makes use of a tiny or large incision to surgically remove the tumour. Laparoscopic or robotic surgery is a less invasive surgical option to remove the tumour.
- Ozone therapy where the ozone is administered directly in one of the twenty four modalities.
