Chronic Conditions
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
What is chronic fatigue syndrome?
Chronic fatigue syndrome refers to severe lethargy that doesn’t dissipate even with rest and cannot be due to any underlying medical conditions.
What are the signs of chronic fatigue syndrome?
Chronic fatigue syndrome leads to the following:
- Persistent insomnia
- Sleep disorders
- Memory lapses
- Difficulty concentrating
- Pain in the muscles
- Migraines
- Multi-jointed pain without swelling or redness (inflammation)
- Recurrent sore throat
- Swollen and tender lymph nodes in certain regions of the body (the neck and armpits).
How do you diagnose chronic fatigue syndrome?
A confirmed diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome is based on two essential questions:
- Do you notice any signs of cognitive impairment, such as trouble with memory, understanding difficult terms and finding the right words to express yourself?
- Do you notice any signs of orthostatic intolerance, such as heart palpitations, dizziness, excessive sweating and nausea, particularly when standing?
A diagnosis can be confirmed based on the following symptoms:
- Reduced physical function and chronic fatigue for six months or more. As a result, fatigue cannot be relieved with rest and does not arise from physical exertion.
- Malaise
- Unsatisfied sleep
How do you treat chronic fatigue syndrome?
Unfortunately, there is no specific remedy for chronic fatigue syndrome. Each person displays unique symptoms of the condition and, therefore, requires several types of treatments to relieve signs of chronic fatigue syndrome.
In some cases, those with chronic fatigue syndrome suffer from vitamin deficiencies and require vitamin supplementation. However, further evidence is needed to support this. Thus, an early diagnosis combined with medication to help relieve symptoms and make the necessary lifestyle adjustments contribute to a better quality of life.
Types of treatments Dr Thomas can prescribe to alleviate symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome include the following:
- Natural Antidepressants are prescribed for those with chronic fatigue syndrome who have trouble sleeping and are in pain.
- Painkillers may only be administered for a short time to relieve muscle pain, migraines and debilitating joint pain.
- Oxidative therapy by the use of medical grade Ozone
